The actor, director and producer Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson is the sixth child of eleven siblings. His parents are Ann Gibson and Hutton Gibson, a former reviewer of railways. Both are Irish descent and loyal followers of Catholicism, Hutton belong to the Alliance for Catholic Tradition.En 1968 and the age of 12, Mel and his family moved to Australia, primarily by the desire of their parents to rid their older children to go to fight in the Vietnam conflict. 
The first academic Gibson intention was to study journalism, but finally decided on the interpretation, enroll in 1974 at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. There he met Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis. After appearing on the television series "The Sullivans" was to produce his debut film intervene in the film "Summer city" (1977), a thriller directed by Christopher Fraser.
