Director and producer American, born in Palermo, Italy, and known mainly by its comedies. Capra was 6 years old when her family emigrated to the United States and she settled down in Los Angeles.
Its first important work in the cinema was like scriptwriter in the studies of Mack Sennett. Later it directed, between 1926 and 1927, three dumb films for Harry Langdon, before getting up itself to Columbia Pictures, where it was great successful like director of comedies with attractive personages, happy social and final resonances (although as they demonstrate many of their later films had capacity to approach very diverse sorts).
With three of these comedies the Oscar to the best director would win: One night happened (1934), the secret to live (1936), and Lives as you want (1938). During II the World war, Capra would produce a series of documentary of propaganda like So that we fought.
