Writer, actor and director of American cinema, whose most personal films are often satirical descriptions of neurotic urban personages, obsessed by the love and the death.

It was born in New York, the 1 of December of 1935, and its true name is Allan Stewart Konigsberg. To the 15 years it began to write jokes for columnistas of press under the pseudonym of Woody Allen. Later it would write for artists of radio and television and, after finishing its secondary studies, was united to the team of the televising humorist Sid Caesar. From 1961 to 1964 it worked like humorist in nightclubs, where it was discovered and contracted by the cinema producer Charles K. Feldman to write and to act in What so, Pussycat? (1965, of Clive Donner).

It approached more serious subjects in Annie Hall (1977), that gained four prizes Oscar (better film, director, script and main actress), carried out by Diane Keaton, who made pair with Allen in most of his films of this time.
More ahead it made Interiors (1978), a shady psychological drama, Manhattan (1979), that marks its return the comedy, Memories (1980), a clearly autobiographical work, and the sexual comedy of one night of summer (1982), the first film with Mia Farrow, his future companion, of whom one separated in 1994. In 1999 it made Agreed and discords, a tribute to his dear world of the jazz interpreted by American actor Sean Penn in the paper of a guitarist obsessed with the figure of the mythical Django Reinhardt.
Other films of their extensive filmografía are: Zelig (1983), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), the pink purple of Cairo (1985), Hannah and his sisters (1986), Days of radio (1987), Another woman (1988), Crimes and lack (1989), Histories of New York (an episode, 1989), Shades and fog (1991), Husbands and women (1992), Mysterious murder in Manhattan (1993), Bullets on Broadway (1994) and the curse of the scorpion of jade (2001). Also it has published two collections of humoristic narrations, Getting Even (1971) and Without pens (1976). The story of its personal and professional trajectory, written by Eric Lax appeared in 1991 with the title of Woody Allen, the biography. In 2002 Prince of Asturias of the Arts was awarded with the Prize.
