Director of American cinema, born in Cincinnati (Ohio). One of his first films, Amblin' (1968), caught the attention of the Universal producer, that contracted to direct it to teleseries and telefilmes. Between these, the devil on wheels (1971) showed its ability to create suspense with daily personages. Its first largometraje rolled directly for the cinema, Crazy person evasion (1974), was followed by one of the greater successes of ticket office of the history of the cinema, Shark (1975), adaptation of the novel of Peter Benchley on the hunting of a great white shark.

Between its later films they emphasize Encounter in the third phase (1977); the series of adventures that begins with In search of the lost coffer (1981), which they follow Indiana Jones and the damn temple (1984) and Indiana crossed Jones and the last one (1989); E.T the extraterrestrial one (1982), one of the taquilleras films of the history of the cinema; The color purple (1985), based on the novel of Alice Walker; and Hook (the captain Hook, 1991). In 1993, Jurásico Park, based on the novel of Michael Crichton, it returned to break ticket office records. Nevertheless, also it has harvested sonorous failures, like those of 1941 (1979), the empire of the sun (1987), Always (For always, 1989) and Friendship (1997).

Like coproducer and coscriptwriter, Spielberg has participated in the running of Poltergeist (1982), Return to the future (1985) and Who deceived Roger Rabbit? (1988). At the end of 1993, in a tone different from the habitual one, he obtained to the support of the critic and the most demanding public with the list of Schindler, film based on the experience of the Holocausto, filmed everything in black and white except an image in color. With her he obtained the Oscar to the best director and the best film in 1994. In 1998 he again achieveed a great success (five prizes Oscar, one of them to the best director) with the antiwarmongering film Saving Private Ryan (To save from the soldier Ryan), interpreted in his main paper by Tom Hanks. In Artificial intelligence (2001), Spielberg retook the old project of Stanley Kubrick on the history of a robot that she loves to be human.
